It was wonderful\nby comparison to the\nalternative: pen and paper, or\neven primitive spreadsheets.\nCompuTrac (the company) put\non annual seminars where they\ninvited notable gurus to share\ntheir trading ideas. It was exciting\nto meet all these famous\npeople face-to-face.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eSomewhere along that time\ncame an upstart young company\ncalled Omega Research. They\nintroduced a DOS program\ncalled SystemWriter, later\nSystemWriter Plus. It answered a fantasy: backtesting concepts and\nproducing detailed reports of the\noutcomes. It only processed daily data,\nbut I created 15-minute data (by hand)\nand fed it into SystemWriter Plus and\nthen wrote in all the corresponding times\non my charts. It was definitely primitive.\nBut it was head and shoulders above\nanything else available.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eWhen Windows came along, it didnt\ntake long for it to catch on, along with\nthe need for intraday data. And along\ncame an upgrade to SystemWriter Plus,\ncalled TradeStation. After that, it all\nhappened very fast, as computers became\nmore sophisticated, operating systems\nblossomed, and datafeeds got faster.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eI do not pretend to know all there is\nto know about available software. Im\ndangerous: I know a little about a lot, but\nnot a lot about much except TradeStation.\nIn this series of reviews, I will show you\navailable software products, but not a\nlot about them. This isnt meant to be\nin-depth reviews of each product, but\na sweeping stroke over a lot of choices\navailable to you as a trader.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eI will present these products alphabetically,\nwith no evaluation as to fitness for\npurpose.
